General Summary:
Administers, plans, organizes and directs all functions and services of the Library and Museum
Essential Functions:
1. Activity is divided into:- a. Media development, both print and non-print
- b. Information retrieval, obtaining the necessary reference tools and exploiting their context in the most effective manner for the users of the Division, creating relevant indexes for retrieval.
3. Organizes current records and archival storage, ensuring the adequate filing, indexing, retrieval, and safeguarding, capturing, if necessary, the image by microfilming or other techniques.
4. National staff liaison to activity in the national resolution processing of the National Convention and National Executive Committee. Liaison also to National Historian’s Office and the administering of the National History Department and Post History Contests.
5. Compiling, organizing, proofreading and editing the congressional required Annual Report of The American Legion, and the Digests of Proceedings of the National Convention and the National Executive Committee meetings.
6. Ensures the accuracy of certain information on the Prominent Legionnaire records on Membership computer system.
7. Supervision and professional development of Library staff.
8. Other duties as may be assigned. Entails some travel requirements.
Minimum Skills Required for Essential Functions:
Education/Technical Knowledge:College education, plus one or two years of additional study in a particular field of specialization as may be represented by a master’s degree or a required five-year bachelor’s degree.
Additional Skills Needed:
Internet skills and familiarity. Intermediate knowledge of Word for Windows, database DBTextWorks, Windows 97 with Outlook. Editing and proofreading using WordPerfect software.Experience: Five years up to eight years

Supervision of Others: The position is responsible for supervising multiple work units, with full responsibility for effective operation and results of those units.

General Summary:
Reviews and presents claims to the BVA on behalf of veterans, their dependents and survivors.
Essential Functions:
- Reviews VA claims files and all adjunct records of veterans and their dependents in which The American Legion has been designated as representative.
- Interviews claimants in preparation for personal hearings.
- Prepares oral presentations and written briefs in accordance with pertinent VA laws and regulations, manual procedures and presidential court decisions.
- Acts as counsel and presents verbal arguments on behalf of claimants during hearings.
- Must be familiar with VA statutes and regulations, the Rating Schedule for Disabilities, VA Office of the General Counsel opinions, decisions of the CVA, US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and the Supreme Court pertaining to veterans’ benefits and The American Legion Code of Procedures.
- Responds to correspondence and telephonic inquiries from DSOs, Congressional Representatives, VA liaisons, appellants and others.
- Refers complex medical and legal issues to immediate Supervisor and/or staff Medical and Legal Consultant for advisory opinions.
- Reviews and presents special cases to the Director, VA Compensation and Pension Service, VACO, for administrative review and consideration.
- Attends training as provided by the National Organization.
- All other duties as assigned.
Minimum Skills Required for Essential Functions:
Education/Technical Knowledge: College education - four year degree to provide basic familiarity with a variety of subjects.
Additional Skills Needed:
- Experience with computers is required and Microsoft Office is preferred.
- Must have some typing and research skills.
- Should have some knowledge of public speaking.
