Site Guidelines
Posts and departments are encouraged to set up and maintain web pages promoting The American Legion, The American Legion Auxiliary, and the Sons of The American Legion, provided they follow a few simple guidelines. Those guidelines are listed below:
No individual should maintain a web homepage representing any American Legion post, district, or department without the knowledge and consent of that post, district, or department.
The person who publishes a homepage on the Internet supporting and/or promoting The American Legion, The American Legion Auxiliary, or the Sons of The American Legion or any of their programs, is responsible for notifying the national headquarters of The American Legion of such page's existence and providing the national headquarters with the page's URL. Please use the following link to e-mail the information to national headquarters by clicking here and placing the URL in the comments area. Posts wishing to publish a web address should use the post locator search result for that post and click on "contact us to add your website" link.
When using the emblems of The American Legion, The American Legion Auxiliary, and/or the Sons of The American Legion, they must be used in accordance with the publication The American Legion Name and Emblem Identification System Manual and Style Guide published by the Emblem Sales Division of The American Legion national headquarters.
All web pages related to The American Legion should contain a link to The American Legion national headquarters homepage (http://www.legion.org) and the department homepage if one exists.
Web pages related to The American Legion should not contain any pornographic images, other objectionable material, or links to pages containing such material.
Homepages should contain information pertaining to local, state, or national programs and projects, as well as links to pages that give detailed information on the programs, goals, and ideals keeping with the spirit of The American Legion, The American Legion Auxiliary, and the Sons of The American Legion.
For those posts that seek a pre-designed website which can be easily changed/updated by anyone without basic computer knowledge or skills, The American Legion has partnered with Legionsites.com to offer this option. Along with technical support when needed, this option is an easy and affordable answer for posts and their website needs.
